I use resveratrol to boost my immune system and stay healthy

Case Study Details

Name: Mallory
Start Age: fortysomething
Height: 5' 4"
Start Weight: 152 lbs.
Health Issues: Anemia, Mild Depression

July 13th, 2007: 5 days ago, I took part in a study for the FDA where participants are put on a controlled diet (avoiding all resveratrol-containing food or drink) for washout. Participants receive oral resveratrol once on day 1.

The study consisted of 10 participants receiving escalating doses of resveratrol until the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) is determined. The MTD is defined as the dose preceding that at which 2 of 10 participants experience dose-limiting toxicity. A total of 30 participants were involved in the test (3 groups) ... I was one of them.

September 23rd, 2007: Fast forward 2 months and I've not been taking Resveratrol at all. After spending some time going over that study, I realized I had not napped for that entire week. This is strange for me, so I wanted to see if it was the resveratrol that woke me up. I just ordered a free trial to see how it goes.

September 30th, 2007: I just got my order and have been taking my Resveratrol on an empty stomach around mid-late morning. It def. inhibits my appetite so that lunch can easily become an afterthought if one isnt careful. It sometimes makes me burp once and I taste it but doesnt upset my stomach or anything. No naps 2 days in & lets hope this appetite supressant benefit holds up so I can shed a few pounds.

October 19th, 2007: I had the RN measure my blood pressure when I donated blood last week. I've been on Resveratrol for a few months now. Throughout life, my blood pressure was consistently in the 120-125/80-85 range. I'm just in my forties and exercise occasionally but it still seemed like it was starting to creep up there with my age.

Today's reading: 112/73 ;-)

December 1st, 2007: I though about the potential fading of the increased energy and beneficial mood effects today. I've been on Resveratrol for a few months and I think these new effects I initially noticed have now just become my new "status quo". I'm no longer tired and constantly in a good mood.

I now expect if I go for a run on my fortysomething yr old body now, I won't feel really tired or banged-up the next day like I used to. I expect that I can multi-task more efficiently now at work and I even went off my anti-depressant my doc had put me on late last spring when multiple outside events unexpectedly came crashing in and I was feeling overwhelmed.

Early on there was an initial appetite suppression and my weight went down 10 pounds at first. But now my body seems to adjusted to this and my weight isn't changing anymore (not that I'm trying to lose weight). I eat regularly but my sense of appetite/feeling hungry really seems to have dimished so I likely could if I tried.

April 13th, 2008: One possible effect I was noticing this weekend:

We are having a warm and early spring out here on the left coast. All the trees, flowers, etc are in bloom withs TONS of pollen blowing around. Normally, I suffer some from allergies (itchy eyes, runny nose, etc), typically histamine release stuff and I usually have to pop a loratidine once in awhile. So far, no noticeable allergy troubles and no need to take loratidine.

May 5th, 2008: My dietary preferences seem to be shifting away from the sweet foods and now very little milk. I still have chocolate fetish but def. the dark unsweetened kind these days.

One other possible effect since starting Resveratrol last year, I've not gotten a single cold, even with 2 small kids at home who are usually very good germ vectors.....

July 11th, 2008: These days, I am very busy and not getting my full allotment of sleep, it doesnt really seem to bother me. A little tired in the morning as I first get up but then once I am going, I have no problems through the day. I used to come home after work, feeling a little drained/tired and ready to wind down so I would would take a nap. Now I find myself doing a lot more projects in the evenings.

July 26th, 2008: Last week I stayed up pretty late (2am) for 3 consecutive days, and I was horribly dreading the next day each of those nights.

The next day came, and I felt ok. I didn't feel full of energy, but I just felt 'normal' like I had gone to bed at my usual 11pm hour. This feeling of being 'normal' even has carried over if I have taxed my body, where I (at least in my recollections...) did something I remember used to leave me exhausted.

I haven't exercised since last year, so it becomes apparent to me that this may be something Resveratrol is doing.

August 8th, 2008: I've been on Resveratrol 1+ years now and definitely had a strong improvement in my tolerance to cold. This past weekend, I was with my entire multi-generational family at a picnic near the CA coast. The fog started blowing in and the air temp dropped rapidly.

All 3 generations of my family changed into:

  • Long pants & shirts
  • Sweatshirts and jackets for the ladies.

I stayed in my:

  • Shorts
  • Tropical cotton shirt, shortsleeve plus a regular cotton undershirt

Everyone thought I was nuts (more than usual, that is) but I was fine for the entire ~2 hours we were there, even just sitting around. It was very interesting to notice that I did not feel cold, not even in my fingers which usually ice up first in that kind of weather.....

I still, also, have not suffered a cold this entire year so far (fingers crossed), even with 2 little ones at home.

December 22nd, 2008: I just had my latest blood pressure reading by a nurse this past Friday. I trust their readings more than the machine at my local drugstore. It was 118/68 which is definitely improved over my earlier readings (before taking Resveratrol). Those tended to be more like ~130/80 and had seemed to be creeping up over the years as I approached my forties. Pulse was 50bpm, body temp was 97.6 but I've always been a bit on the cool side...

February 17th, 2009: Well, I finally caught my first cold since starting resveratrol supplementation in late 2007.

I really think that taking it has helped me fight off a lot of colds my kids bring home but this last one, with the start of school, was a doozy. I woke up Saturday feeling very tired, achy joints, headache and w/ a sore throat. Better during the day but got chills in the evening. Similar on Sunday w/ mild fever. I didn't use resveratrol this weekend as I was out of town. Anyways, started again on Monday. Its now Tuesday and I feel fine-a little slow this morning but otherwise okay. I don't think I've ever bounced back so quickly from a cold, esp. a more severe one like this-usually I'm out of it for more like a week.

So I finally got one from my kids but compared to rest of my family, I definitely got the "lite" version. Whereas they were stuck with ~5 days of a deep cough, nasal congestion and tiredness, I only suffered ~2 days of tiredness and a shallow cough limited to my upper respiratory tract. Now I'm back...

That reason right there is enough to use this stuff!!!!!
